Silon Jere scored the consolation for Warriors

Silon Jere’s goal was not enough as Warriors fell to a second home defeat in a row against Green Eagles in week 5 of the FAZ Super League on Saturday 6 May 2017.

Warriors were searching for their first win of the season, but it was not to be as Eagles ran out 2-1 winners at the Godfrey Chitalu stadium.

The home side started on a bright note with Ghanaian striker George Quarshie failing to convert a header from Paul Simpemba’s cross.

The visitors took the lead in the 20th minute after Anos Tembo bulldozed his way passed Moonga Chilimba and slotted past William Chibale in goal.

Manfred Chabinga the happier of the two coaches as Eagles went into the breaking leading.
Eagles came out flying in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts when they were rewarded with a penalty. William Chibale was adjudged to have fouled Eagles striker Anos Tembo.

Protests from the home fans caused the match to be delayed for 10 minutes. But upon resumption, Mwila Phiri converted the spot kick to double the lead.

Veteran midfielder Silon Jere pulled one back for Warriors but it was not enough as Eagles held on for a vital win and leave the Magnificent People’s team in the relegation zone.

Warriors next play Mufulira Wanderers away at Shinde stadium in Mufulira on Saturday 13 May 2017.
