NKONKO LATE HEADER SECURES VICTORY OVER ZESCO UNITED
HERITIER Nkonko’s late header handed Kabwe Warriors three points against defending Champions Zesco United in a 2-1 victory at Railway Stadium.
This was in a week 17 rescheduled game that saw both sides test each other in the opening exchanges.
Scott Ngokene needed to be at his best to keep out a fierce strike from Zimbabwean Tafadzwa Rusike on 27 minutes.
At the other end, it was another Zimbabwean Sadiki Ali who saw his effort saved by Jacob Banda.
The two teams went into the break tied with no goals.
It was the home side that came out on the front foot in the second half.
Warriors found the breakthrough in the 49th minute through the reliable Jimmy Ndhlovu. A cross on the right by Sydney Phiri was placed perfectly onto Beleki’s head to beat Jacob Banda as he dived to his left but couldn’t stop the silent assassin from bagging his eighth goal of the season.
Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba was forced off with an injury after twisting his foot.
Zesco United came back to level terms through second half substitute Jesse Were.
Deep into added Scott seemed to have saved Warriors from defeat with a brilliant one on one block to keep out Rusike. But there was to be late drama as a Jimmy corner was headed in by substitute Nkonko to send the stadium in cheers. That was to be the last action of the encounter as the referee blew his whistle for full time.
